    Naturalist
    Andreas was born in the village of Ebeltoft on the central east coast of Denmark and has spent his childhood years with the sea and open fields as neighbours. For a child of the North, fishing, bicycling, skiing, and hiking come along with your first steps and nature has always had a self-explanatory role in Andreas’ life. Between studies he left Denmark to travel and it was during his months in South America he discovered his curiosity and interest for geology.

    Ashley was raised in the foothills of the Cascade Range in Central Oregon. After childhood careers in ski racing, equestrian sports, classical piano, and summer jobs on a dude ranch, she emerged as a unique hybrid of adventuress, hobby farmer, and storyteller.

  • Beau Price

    Naturalist/Expedition Diver
    Born on Australia’s northern beaches and raised on the coast of tropical Queensland, Beau developed his love for the ocean and all things water at an early age. Forever planning a career revolving around water, he became a PADI Divemaster before graduation and quickly climbed the ranks to become a PADI Master Instructor. During this time, Beau also became the head service technician for several companies and founded NARC’D Diving Services; a commercial diving and marine contracting business. To broaden his experience in the industry, Beau also gained accreditation to become an ADAS Commercial Diver, specializing in demolition and salvage operations. As a result, he has worked on many projects, including flood relief, military training, Hollywood film sets, documentaries and various deep ocean dive operations. Most recently, Beau has secured a coveted position within the Australian Defence Force on their Helicopter Underwater Escape Training team. In addition to his strong passion for the ocean and subsequent diving, Beau is also an avid traveller out of the water, often visiting new countries in his free time. He is proud to say he’s had the opportunity to dive on every continent.

  • Carl Erik Kilander

    Naturalist
    Carl was born in Norway and received a master’s degree in forestry and nature conservation from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences in 1973. His professional experience is mainly connected to environmental issues and natural resource management on the Norway mainland and in Svalbard. A major part of his professional experience comprises planning and management of protected areas, particularly in the southern parts of Norway and Svalbard. During the period 1999-2001 Carl was Head of the Environmental Department at the Governor of Svalbard´s office. He has also been District Manager (southwestern Norway) followed by the position of Senior Environmental Adviser at the Norwegian State Forest Service.

    Growing up on a farm in the Sperrin Mountains of Northern Ireland, Emmett developed his love of nature and the environment from a very young age.  His passion for marine science came from time spent on family trips along the wild Atlantic coastline of County Donegal.

    Naturalist/Certified Photo Instructor
    Jamie is from England. He grew up in Oxford, about as far from the sea as you can get in the UK, yet somehow decided he would work in marine biology and conservation. Ever since he reached his teens, he has dedicated time to this passion, working and volunteering in various roles on nature reserves and in aquariums. It was no surprise that in 2007, he left home to study marine biology at the University of Newcastle.

    Johanna grew up landlocked in a small town in Southern Germany. She realized at an early age that she wanted to see more of the world than the foot of the Swabian Alps and every year, she would beg her parents to spend the summers near the sea.

  • Karen Velas

    Naturalist
    Karen Velas cares deeply about protecting the environment and its wildlife.  Over the last 15 years, she has been involved with numerous conservation projects, including working as the Lead Project Coordinator on the California Condor Project with The National Audubon Society, managing projects in the flooded rice fields of California’s Central Valley with The Nature Conservancy and surveying the distant cliffs of Iceland to aid in puffin recovery with the South Iceland Research Centre.

  • Lucho Verdesoto

    Expedition Leader
    Born and raised in the tropical country of Ecuador, Lucho is a passionate naturalist that has been working for Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic since 1998. With a marine biology background, he started as a naturalist in the Galápagos Islands in 1994. Since then, he has filled numerous roles with Lindblad-National Geographic, such as naturalist, undersea specialist and expedition leader in the Galápagos Islands, Costa Rica and Panama, and Baja California.
