Sunrise painted the sky a mixture of vivid colors, signaling a new day of exploration in the Amazon Basin. Making a comfortable dry landing at the Amazon Natural Park, we were greeted by the songs of different birds inviting us into the jungle. But first we had to take a catamaran canoe to get the beginning of the trail. Our short canoe trip took us through a section of the forest where sleeping long-nosed bats hung from a tree branch very close to the water.

Once on the other side of the waterway, we began hiking deep into the forest. The majesty of the place inspired us. Very tall trees of different varieties decorated the path from beginning to end. The major part of our exploration was to cross over the forest on a canopy boardwalk, which gave us a better perspective of the jungle. At the end of our visit to the Amazon Natural Park, we enjoyed a demonstration by local artisans.

Back onboard Delfin II, our exploration continued to the jungle paradise of Nauta Caño. That afternoon, a comfortable skiff ride along the edges of a stream allowed us to get very close to the wildlife. Among the charms of the Amazon Basin, we saw squirrel monkeys, monk-saki monkeys, red-capped cardinals, masked crimson tanagers and black-collared hawks. We returned to the Delfin II accompanied by a splendid sunset. Tomorrow, our Amazon journey continues.
