Today, we awoke on the National Geographic Explorer, in the waters of the Antarctic. As the ship continued her journey south, the momentum was building; towering icebergs peered through haze and horizon while humpback whales swam around us, feeding. In the afternoon, we arrived and made our first landfall at the South Shetland Islands. As the “sunset” approached, we held a toast with the captain. Then, we headed off again, this time towards Deception Island where we would end the day eager for the rest of our journey.
