The sounds of birds woke us up early this morning at one of the most iconic places of the Pacaya Samiria Reserve: Atun Poza. Today, our exploration started with a jungle breakfast activity, which gave us the opportunity to experience the symphony of nature while eating.  Squirrel monkeys were among the first sightings of the day, during this breakfast outing, and the presence of blue and yellow macaws enhanced the activity for us.

After breakfast was over, we started heading farther into Atun Poza, in order to find out what Mother Nature had in store for us.  Ringed kingfishers, red-capped cardinals, short-tail parrots, and black-collared hawks where spotted all over the place, making for a marvelous outing.  As we were preparing to head back to Delfin II, a troop of four monk-saki monkeys gave us a spectacular show as they jumped from one branch to the other.

Once back on Delfin II, we started navigation to our next destination: Pacaya River.  Experiencing the rain forest at Pacaya River was really awe-inspiring.  The presence of cocoi herons, neo-tropical cormorants, and hoatzins perched on the tree branches made our experience remarkable.  Red howler monkeys that were spotted into the trees traveling to their homes were the highlight of the afternoon.  Once we reached the farthest point of Pacaya river, we found outselves in the middle of a black water lake, and with the presence of pink river dolphins, we enjoyed the Amazon plunge activity beneath a marvelous sunny sky above us.

The red sunset behind the horizon was the perfect decoration for the day’s grand finale, and tomorrow, more adventures are waiting for us in the living paradise of the Upper Amazon.
