Our first full day in the Amazon was full of surprises. We ventured in the forest led by our naturalists and escorted by several members of a local community to help us spot some of the very well camouflaged wildlife. This is a very diverse ecosystem in this part of the world. The number creatures and plants are mind-blowing.
As we walked deeper in the forest we were able to spot thanks one of the member of the community a red-tailed boa constrictor slithering through the vegetation and then rising and climbing a tree trunk, a great opportunity for us photographers to capture the moment. Not far from there a juvenile anaconda showed up near a small stream, its head was visible for a few seconds and then dove to show up again and climb to the vegetation showing the full size of the body nearly 10 feet long.
After a great lunch and our photography talk, we explored Yanayacu River, this is one of the tributaries of the Marañón River. The wildlife around this location is unparalleled, king fishers, grey herons, black collared hawks, parakeets and pink dolphins were observed during our exploration via skiffs.
It was a fantastic day, with so many new bird sightings!
