National Geographic Explorer plied her way south across the Drake Passage today, nudged along by a light tailwind. We were privileged to witness three species of albatross: black-browed, grey-headed, and the superlative wandering albatross, sporting a 12-foot-wide wingspan. Between a variety of presentations on history and wildlife biology, we took time to marvel at the seabirds racing by from the aft deck. Tomorrow, we anticipate our first glimpse of land and ice in Antarctica, and the excitement is palpable!
