Our first sight of land in several days, and of vegetation in a month, brought many people out on deck to watch the shores of Aoteroa/New Zealand approach. As the ship entered the harbour, we saw new birds and the headland where a colony of northern royal albatrosses nest. We had a day to enjoy Dunedin after we cleared customs, and those who wished to continue exploring nature had a chance to go to Allen’s Beach, where sea lions and various birds were abundant. Other guests went into town and visited the botanical garden or joined photographer Camille Seaman on a tour of the street art found in the city’s nooks and crannies. The evening ended with the captain’s farewell!
