The Caledonian Star found mountain and glacier paradise today! After yesterday's windstorm at Deception Island, clear skies have revealed a landscape that is perhaps unequaled on planet Earth. Huge, rugged mountains rise straight out of the sea and the many crevasses seen within the glaciers give them the texture of frozen tater-tots. When the crevassed ice makes it down to the sea, it becomes part of a great flotilla of icebergs, around which Captain Skog and his officers deftly maneuver our ship. Many guests can be found out on deck taking pictures and admiring the unbelievable view, which reminded some guests of our own Grand Teton National Park. Someone else remarked that we are enjoying temperatures in Antarctic right now that are about 30 degrees warmer than in Idaho or Montana! Sailing on this comfortable ship through such scenery and going ashore to observe wildlife is an excellent way to enjoy a sunny day in the great wilderness called Antarctica.
