Atun Poza Caño & Carocurahuayte Caño
After being in the Amazon rainforest for almost a week our guests are already deeply connected with the marvelous dynamics of this enthralling and captivating ecosystem. Our last full day of exploration of the Pacaya-Samiria Reserve in Peru was filled with all the ingredients that have made this expedition one to be remembered: great animal sightings, better company and wonderful meals with regional flavors.
In the early morning we explored “Atun Poza” where we spotted several troops of Squirrel monkeys, some of them very near to the skiffs. In the afternoon we went to “Carocurahuayte Caño”, a place where we practiced our fishing skills with the aid of very basic equipment that consisted of a wooden stick and a hook. Several guests had the joy to fish for a piranha in the Amazon. We practiced catch and release, handling the animals and removing the little hooks with care. This event by itself is great, for these fish species have been unfortunately identified as voracious and vicious animals. General bad press has given them an unjustified, mythical bad name.
Later in the evening we had a great barbeque farewell dinner with music, it was a golden finale for a spectacular expedition.
In fact, as our week nears an end we are a little tired with all the early outings and activities, but our hearts and minds are fulfilled and rejuvenated with new feelings, memories and impressions, so strong, so vivid they will stay with us forever.
