Atun Poza and the Ucayali River
The Amazon basin is an ecosystem filled with extremes. The largest river by volume. The most diverse for many plant and animal groups on the planet. The biggest this, the most of that, and a whole lot of everything else. The tiniest, the highest number, etc., etc. These are statements made throughout our journey, but what really matters is to just be here. It is not so important to remember the facts and names, but to just experience it. Seeing it, hearing it, touching it, smelling it, and even the wonderful tasting of it we have done. That is it.
Today we walked to a massive Ceiba tree. On the way we had numerous personal experiences that we shall never forget. Later, some of us again boarded the skiffs for more of this place. Others of us changed it up a bit. Therapeutic mud, along with swimming in the river, was simply another way of experiencing this incredible place that is the Amazon.
