New Years Eve!
For many people all over the world the last day of the year is a day of great celebration and merriment. We 'ring out the old and ring in the new' with much fanfare. Hats and horns and champagne are a part of the festivities.
For the adventurers aboard the MS Endeavour the arrival at the white continent is of itself cause for celebration. For most of us the planing of this voyage began some time ago. We've flown thousands of miles to Ushuaia, the end of the earth, and then boarded our ship. The six hundred and more miles across the Drake Passage has tested our balance but produced bountiful wildlife. We've been briefed on protocol for visitors. We've got our boots and our parkas. Our cameras are ready and our senses have been primed. Perhaps years of anticipation will be fulfilled on this last day of the year for tonight we'll go ashore and toast our arrival in Antarctica. Hats and horns and champagne indeed!
