Isles of Scilly

Sunday was our day for the Isles of Scilly, and so it was with much anticipation that we landed on Tresco to walk through the truly magnificent Abbey Gardens where the influence of the Gulf Stream has allowed the open-air cultivation of a whole array of semi-tropical plants. As usual, the gardens lived up to their splendid reputation, with banks of flowers in an assortment of blazing colors, spread out beneath the towering palm trees and other tropical foliage.

Equally intriguing for many were the garden birds-robins, chaffinches, blackbirds, song thrushes and many others -each tamer than the other and more than willing to take food from our outstretched hands. Altogether a fit setting for such a Garden of Eden.
