Stetinden

Life in the Far North can be savage and brutal. If you aren’t trying to cope with the overwhelming scenery, you’re trying to fit a sumptuous meal into your schedule. Of course, with practice, one can learn to tolerate the continuous scenic onslaught, and we have had more than our share of such practice in the past few days. Even so, this afternoon’s visit to Stetinden, the mountain sometimes called the “Anvil of the Gods”, stretched even our scenery-hardened sensibilities. At 1391 m (4590 ft), this mountain is a poster child for the aesthetics of geology, and was recently named the National Mountain of Norway. However, it was no match for a group of our scenery professionals, who handled it’s presence with aplomb, and didn’t even let it stop them from enjoying a delicious Filipino Buffet dinner, served outside on the festively festooned pool deck.
