Venice

We have come to the end of our trip through the Mediterranean Sea. Our transit from west to east has taken us from Cadiz, Spain to Venice, Italy. What a beautiful city in which to end our trip. Our approach this morning, after a spectacular sunrise, was anticipated by all aboard. Once the pilot was on the ship we made our way through the deep outer canal past the Piazza San Marco and over to the Marine Station where the Endeavour was berthed. From there we boarded a day boat for a quick ride back to the town square where we went on a walking tour that included the Bascillica of Saint Mark built from the 9th to 11th century, the Doges’ Palace with its amazing mural paintings, and the incredible Campanile of San Marco, the great bell tower that rises high above the city. We also walked the Bridge of Sighs where doomed prisoners got their last glimpse of Venice before execution.

There was a shuttle back to the ship for lunch, many stayed in town for what else but pizza and to do some shopping. There was also an optional boat trip up the grand canal for some in the afternoon with a stop at the Guggenheim museum. Any way you enjoyed the city of Venice would create great memories for the end of our travels aboard the Endeavour.
