Espanola Island
The last day of our trip was both very relaxing and full of activities. The water temperature was 75 degrees and it felt great during the snorkeling. Some of us decided to explore some of the nearby areas with our kayaks, and it turned out to be quite an experience! Espanola Island is also the perfect place for sea lion observation since they live here in large numbers.
This island is also the home for several endemic species of animals such as the waved albatross, mockingbirds, marine iguanas and lava lizards. It was great to see the large amount of seabirds all over the cliff, and that is how it is during the whole year around! In the afternoon, we disembarked at Punta Suarez, where the sea lions were bodysurfing in the breaking waves at the dock. They gave us a great view and impression of how well skilled they are in the water.
The afternoon outing was one of those that nobody wanted to miss. The long and short walks took us to the most representative area in this island, and they were both perfect to enjoy animal wildlife. The long walk, however, headed to a very special place called the blow hole and included a much more rigorous and fast paced walk. The effort done was worth it, since the view was overwhelming.
We came back on board just on time to enjoy the sunset from the ship. With cocktails in our hands, we enjoyed the beautiful colors of the sky and the sea when the sun was about to set…
