Santa Cruz and North Seymour Islands
Our day started with a bright and shiny sunrise! It was not too long after our wake up call when we were already heading to the highlands of Santa Cruz to our encounter with Giant tortoises.
We found them earlier than expected, since as we were riding into the forests ,we spotted them grassing at the vegetation.
The second part of our morning was spent at Puerto Ayora. This charming, not-so-small-anymore town is located at the southern rim of the island. Pto Ayora could be also known as the T-shirt capital of South America, since there is no single design that hasn’t been created and stamped on T’s here!
It was not too long after our lunch when we spotted dolphins in the distance. We headed to their encounter and had a blast! They were literally surrounding the ship, doing all kinds of pirouettes in the air, making “wow” the most popular word during this time!
Our afternoon was markedly different that our morning. We walked on a rather dry forest area, full of cacti and Palo Santo trees. The predominant animals were the iguanas and sea birds.
We were amazed with all the sightings, but it was hot, so it was great to return to the ship for a refreshing swim (and jump) from the ship. We all enjoyed the cool and serene Galápagos’ waters, and to top it all, the sun setting in the horizon, just as beautiful as we saw it rise in the morning…
