Isabela and Fernandina Islands

These spectacular islands located in the western realms of the Galápagos archipelago are both magical and inspirational. The intrinsic beauty of the volcanic landscapes together with the abundance and exquisiteness of the wildlife provoke in our visitors unforgettable experiences.

We started this day with a great sighting. A large pod of common dolphins and some stripped dolphins were spotted from the Islander. This great sighting marked the beginning of a series of extraordinary ones during the whole day. Later in the morning during a Zodiac cruise along the coastline of Punta Vicente Roca we had the thrill to observe many fascinating animal species that included the rare Galápagos penguins and flightless cormorants. The huge and bizarre-looking giant sunfish (Mola mola) caused a commotion among their observers. Some of us went snorkeling and had the delight to swim with the highly endangered Green Pacific sea turtles. This latter experience is mind-blowing; just imagine floating among these big and beloved marine reptiles in their own environment.

In the afternoon we all were touched by the magic of Fernandina Island. This island is a paradise for nature lovers. Large groups of marine iguanas were basking in the sun everywhere. Sea lion mothers feeding pups and solicitous flightless cormorants attending their chicks made us thinking that we were immersed in a dream. A gorgeous sunset was our company in our way back to the Islander. With all the new experiences and memories that this great day added to our lives we can hardly wait what tomorrow will bring to our expedition around this enchanted archipelago. What a wonderful day!
