Isabela Island

What an exciting day we all had on Puerto Villamil and its surroundings. This painteresque little town is the capital of Isabela Island. Many diverse activities were offered for the enjoyment of our guests. Some of them decided to climb to the nearby rim at Sierra Negra volcano. We were blessed by beautiful weather, with a partially covered blue sky and a soft nice breeze blowing across our faces. The view of this enormous caldera (7x10 kilometers across) was overwhelming. Some of the other guests preferred to explore the main town of Villamil either way by walking or biking, and by the end of it, a quick dip in the paradisiacal blue waters of the nearby beach did not sound like a bad idea at all!

In the afternoon, we went to pay a visit to the Giant tortoises breeding center located in Villamil. It was here were we witnessed the arduous and inspirational work that has been done in order to save these wonderful reptiles. On the way back, we walked along a boardwalk that crossed several small fresh water lagoons. The sight of the colorful greater flamingos on the lagoons was spectacular. Please take a look at today’s picture and imagine what we saw up and close!

Just when we thought that the fun was over, we had a final stop by one of the local kiosks to share a beer and our adventures of the day. A glorious sunset helped us to fix in our minds and hearts all the new discoveries that this expedition is continuously bringing to our lives.
