Bartolome and Santiago Islands
Another exciting and wonderful early morning outing began at 6.30am when we disembarked to climb up to the summit of Bartolome Island. It was an unforgettable experience, for from the top we could see a wide variety of colorful hills and possibly the most representative sight, the icon of Galápagos: Pinnacle Rock of Bartholomew Island.
The exercise climbers head straight up to the top without stopping, but others took their time to reach the summit. All had the chance to see and hear about the impressive cinder cones, spatter cones and tuff cones which make up the island.
Once we returned on board the ship, a healthy breakfast was waiting. For the rest of the morning we focused on and were delighted by the brown sand beach as well as snorkeling. This let us get close to the penguins, sea lions, tropical fish and the spectacular blue-footed boobies, diving to catch fish.
In the afternoon, a nice black sand beach awaited us, and the endemic fur seal was found at the end of the trail near the grottos, either playing or fighting, we’re not sure! A great attraction was the large piles of the black marine iguanas of Pto. Egas, James Island.
Finally a beautiful sunset with the background of Isabela Island ended our second day of exploration.
