Española Island

We awoke to the most beautiful clear morning to enjoy our last day in the Galápagos Islands. We had a pleasant breakfast at eight, then started with a variety of activities: kayakers left first, followed by snorkelers and the rest of us disembarked on a white sandy beach at Gardner Bay. We shared the morning with colonies of happy Galápagos sea lions and their cute pups. The highlights of the morning were, as usual, the wonderful and playful baby sea lions that interacted with us on the sandy beach as well as underwater.

After a great buffet lunch, we disembarked for the afternoon’s outing at Punta Suarez, on the western tip of Española Island. Two magnificent Galápagos hawks welcomed us on to our disembarkation place. Spectacularly colourful marine iguanas, large lava lizards, the curious Española mocking bird together with lots of sea lions accompanied us at the beginning of our visit. The rocky trail in Punta Suarez led us through outstanding colonies of endless numbers of Nazca boobies as well as blue-footed boobies. The scenery here is also spectacular, as we enjoyed spectacular seabird cliffs, punctured by a blow-hole sending blasts of sea water sky high. Those who did not take the walk got to spend time around the landing area, then view the scenery and blowhole by Zodiac, from a different perspective!

We gathered in the lounge for our farewell cocktail, during which we watched a slide show prepared by our staff over the week, and shared our most unforgettable moments.
