Floreana Island

Our day started early in the morning visiting one of the most representative places in the Galápagos archipelago. The place we went on to was very well known among all sailors since the late 1700’s. There in the northern realm of Charles Island we got to Post office bay where a barrel can still be found. Following the old tradition we picked up some letters to hand deliver them and also left some of our own ones. This was a great opportunity to remember those brave adventurous men who sailed around the Pacific for many years to make some fortune leaving their families behind, so the barrel on Post Office Bay became their only connection with their beloved ones. After visiting Post Office Bay we left this area and went to one of the most amazing snorkeling sites as it is Champion Islet where we had a great time snorkeling with playful Galápagos sea lions, and being surrounded by hundreds of fishes of different types.

During the afternoon we went ashore to visit Punta Cormorant and for our own big surprise we found a female Pacific green sea turtle that was resting right on the shore, while a large school of spotted eagle rays and golden rays were swimming together. The warm light of the late afternoon brought up to our eyes the true bright colors of Greater flamingos feeding on brine shrimp on the lagoon of Punta Cormorant. We enjoyed a pleasant day in paradise and a gorgeous sun set.
