Espanola Island
Our last day, nonetheless, was very active and full of new experiences! In seven days we have tried to show the magnificence of an archipelago almost completely unspoiled by man; its landscape and the animals that inhabit it in both land and the marine environment, are beyond comparison to any other location in the world.
Espanola Island is the last destination during this wonderful experience. Considered one of the oldest islands (four and a half million years old!), its present location at the western-most realm of the archipelago reveals flat, tall cliffs that are adorned with several sea bird species.
Once on land, its fauna is overwhelming, as we often encountered blue footed boobies, marine iguanas, sea lions, lizards, hawks and more, literally in the middle of the trail! It was hard to believe that even during the last day we observed so many, and even new species for our bird and reptile lists.
There is no doubt that at the end of the day we had fulfilled the expectations of our guests, wanting to get to know an area that was both pristine and at the same time accessible enough to appreciate its beauties. Espanola has been only a small part of that fulfillment, since the whole Galápagos experience will be hard to forget…
