Floreana Island
We started this morning visiting one of the most ancient places in the Galápagos (and possibly in the Southern Pacific) by disembarking at the historical Post Office Bay. Long ago, Captain James Colnett from the British Royal Navy placed a wine barrel over this bay so pirates, whalers and buccaneers could have a place that would work as regular post offices do. We continued with the tradition and disembarked with our post cards, however stamps were not required for their delivery, since anybody could take them along and hand deliver them.

After our morning outing we disembarked to go snorkeling around Champion islet. This was promising to be one of the richest and most colorful snorkeling sites of the whole week. It did not disappoint us since lots of beautiful and colorful tropical fish literally surrounded us in the peaceful-clear waters that surrounded the area.

Last but not the least our Zodiacs were launched with guests ready to explore the natural dramatic cliffs of Champion Island. Our experienced Zodiac drivers took us into the narrowed passages of the Island for us to find the unique Floreana mockingbird.

As we rode along the bay, baby sea lions purposed along our Zodiac and we observed many species of marine birds, as well.

The afternoon was just as good, and took us into the trail at Punta Cormorant. There was an exquisite white flour-soft like sandy beach with green fragments of olivine on it. Pink flamingos were found along the shore line of a brackish lagoon and bird watching became the highlight for the afternoon.

Our day finished with a nice touch of color, as our guests were all wearing their “best Galápagos t-shirt” for the BBQ dinner up in the sky deck. As a mantle of stars was covering the southern sky, our Expedition Leader Lucho showed us some of the constellations and stars found in our surroundings. What a way to finish our day!
