Española Island

It is hard to explain what we all felt after such an amazing day at the Island of Española. It would be best explained as electricity running all along your body and making you feel as if you were in heaven! What a feeling!

The temperature of the ocean, (even though a bit chilly) was good enough for a great last snorkeling session; this was done in a dream-like perfect environment under the company of sea lions and several tropical fish. Later on, the kayaking experience didn’t disappoint us when, escorted by Hood mockingbirds and finches, we enjoyed the freedom of floating so close to the crystal clear waters.

It was a good combination of both sun and wind; it gave the chance for albatross to fly in a way that only albatross can do, and for marine iguanas to swim in a way that only they can do!

The trail at Punta Suarez during the afternoon outing turned into the perfect stage to admire several new species. Even as dry as the environment looks now, plants were found with lots of foliage and even with some blossoms. This was just the necessary amount of color to realize that life keeps going on, even in an environment as unpredictable as the Galápagos.

At the end of our visit, a magnificent sunset shared the mythical “not so common” green flash. It was like the perfect ending to a perfect expedition.
