Bartolome & Santiago Islands

Sunrise felt very inviting and the early light was opening the new day pretty fast; we understood immediately that it was going to be a nice day for us all. Walking up to the very summit of Bartolomé Island, brought us to one of the most imposing landscapes of the archipelago. Visibility was extraordinary, allowing us to see afar and recognize several other islands of the Galápagos.

At mid morning all our guests were already instructed in the art of snorkeling, so forward we moved to find some of the secrets of the ocean. First thing upon arrival was to explore the “other side” of Bartolomé. We walked there and found at least twenty white-tipped reef sharks and in the nearby mangrove trees, the last of the pelican nests during this season, with two very healthy chicks.

The sea was the most pleasant and was delightful for snorkeling so here we were today surrounded by penguins and tropical fish, while on land bull sea lions were having a territory dispute at one end of the beach.

The afternoon on Puerto Egas was also outstanding. The magical-shaped shoreline was full of activity derived of the presence of many birds and reptiles. All sort of invertebrates were exposed with the low tide, and the yellow warblers and finches, as well as several other shorebirds were feasting on them. Fur seals and Galápagos sea lions were reposing here and there, while some whales appeared at the horizon. It has been a really fulfilling day.
