Española Island
We started our day having a lot of fun, which is exactly what this expedition is all about. Galápagos is a well balanced combination of fun and discovery, worth to be a show for National Geographic Channel. The observations and experiences obtained during these seven days have been unequal to any other week in this archipelago, which precisely what makes the Galápagos so special: every week is different!
Our morning started with the last of our snorkeling excursions of the week, which sounds pretty sad, but considering everything that we have seen, we were very happy that we had one more chance to do it. Española is one of those islands that surprise you with its beauty and incomparable scenery, even underwater. The snorkeling area did not have any boundaries at the surface, but rather an exceptional underwater topography.
According to Rafael, one of the naturalist and leader of the snorkeling group this morning, thousands of tropical fish were converging in a very narrow area. Even better, the sighting of five hammer head sharks made this “the top notch” snorkeling experience of the week!
In general, everything that we chose to do today had no wrong side. The beach goers had a wonderful time with as many sea lions as one might think could fit on a beach. Kayakers were also experiencing the view along dramatic cliffs that would make professional cliff hangers drool in envy.
The sight of albatrosses during our afternoon walk was everyone’s highlight, and everyone returned very happy with their overall Galápagos experience.
