Floreana Island
A refreshing early morning outing took us to the historical Post Office Bay. We took and left post cards that will be hand delivered, just as it used to be a couple of centuries ago when pirates and whalers used a plain wine barrel for mail exchange.
Our second morning outing was one of the greatest snorkeling sites of the whole week; Champion Islet was the best to observe more than a dozen species of colorful fish gathered in big schools. Chocolate chips, yellow and blue sea stars were all over the bottom of the sea plus the playful sea lions, made this one of the most spectacular snorkeling experiences! We came back onboard to get a hot shower and change quickly for our next adventure. Our third outing of the morning was once again around Champion, but this time for bird watching. We found the Floreana Mocking bird, which happens to be a very elusive endemic bird; because of the presence of introduced species on the island of Floreana (such as cats), this unique bird is now only found on Champion Islet. After all this morning action we needed to replenish our energy and had a great lunch. With the help of a little bit of siesta, we were fully energized to start our afternoon with kayaking, swimming from the beach and a great walk at Punta Cormorant.
The highlight of the afternoon was of course the very pink flamingoes on the brackish water lagoon and the great colors displayed during the sunset at Punta Cormorant.
