Floreana Island
We began our day with a refreshing early morning outing to visit the historical Post Office Bay on Floreana Island. This island was the very first one that ever had a human being live here and along with this, we had some great stories told by our Naturalists about the people who colonized the islands. Floreana was also very much visited by pirates and whalers, they used to come to this spot to pick up and leave mail for their friends and families back in the seventeen hundreds!
Our second morning outing after breakfast was to snorkel in one of the most spectacular snorkeling sites of the whole archipelago. Champion Islet offers an array of different colorful tropical fish which were surrounding us in big schools; playful young sea lions were everybody’s delight, too.
The third and last outing for the morning was a Zodiac ride for bird watching; we again headed to Champion Islet to appreciate the huge Opuntia and Candelabra Cactus, and to look for the endemic mocking bird of Floreana. The highlight for the afternoon was terrificbeach time at Cormorant Point and a leisurely stroll alongside a brackish lagoon with flamingoes. We observed a couple dozen of these colorful birds and appreciated the beautiful surroundings of this great spot. Floreana certainly has a lot of attractions to offer. A wonderful sunset was once again the perfect ending for another great day in paradise.
