Bartolome Island
Located at the center of the Galápagos, this rather tiny piece of land is what we call an open textbook for geology. Its incredible geological features triggered lots of questions from our guests and a lot of pictures as well. It was worth spending the whole morning at the island. After climbing more than three hundred steps, we were rewarded with the most scenic view of the Galápagos: The pinnacle rock!
After such a nice early outing, snorkeling became our priority. The water visibility was incredible and the idea of swimming with penguins was simply beyond belief. Once we landed on the beach, a couple of penguins were spotted swimming along the shore, as if inviting everyone to join the fun. We all went on a race to find them, and of course our efforts payed off when, in the blink of an eye, these little birds started swimming with us. They were actually pursuing their breakfast, a little tiny fish called black stripped salemas.
After leaving this magnificent island behind, we spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon navigating along the coastline of Santiago.
As if the snorkeling in the morning was not enough, we offered it as an option for the afternoon as well. Once again, a total success! The water was warm and clear making the snorkeling really enjoyable. The walk along the shoreline of Santiago occurred almost at the end of the afternoon, providing us with the best light of the day for pictures. The beauty of the scenery and the animals seemed to double up because of the way the light was hitting them. It was an afternoon out of a dream, in fact, the whole day seemed to be unreal…looking forward to tomorrow!
