Espanola Island
A great week has come to an end! However, from a more philosophical point of view, this is not an ending. On the contrary, it is a new beginning for all of us who realized that this is too beautiful and too important to let it go after only one week. Praising commentaries arose during our last evening on the ship, filling us with joy and satisfaction. A very touching round of “best experiences” and “favorite moments” was both very motivating and very encouraging to all of us that work here in the Galápagos.
This is certainly a unique place, where the wild inhabitants allow us to share their world in the most exquisite way you could imagine. This week has been full of sightings! From extraordinary encounters with whales to moments of silence in certain islands observing tiny baby sea lions, the whole week has been a celebration for life. Not only it is amazing to observe animals so close to us, but it is extraordinary that they keep carrying on with their lives as if we were not even there. Sightings like the blue-footed booby chick observed on today’s picture will be kept in our memories for a long time. My highlight of the day was definitely the baby booby playing with us. He was totally unaware of our presence as humans, but rather concentrated on what was important to him at the time, our shoelaces!
