Fernandina Island

We started this beautiful day with a very exciting sighting. While cruising along the northern part of Isabela Island, the richest and most productive part of the Galápagos archipelago, we spotted a very large pod of stripped dolphins. These beautiful animals are not very common here in this area, therefore we were all very excited when we had the joy to observe them. The dolphins were traveling looking at the same time for food. We had the thrill to be extremely close to them. At one point they started to perform great acrobatic jumps and leaps in the air. Some dolphins jumped very high moving their tails and splashing the water; these cetaceans were a true delight for all of us.

Later in the morning, we enjoyed a very interesting Zodiac ride along the coastline of Ecuador volcano. During this ride, we observed the rare and endemic Galápagos penguins and flightless cormorants. We observed a large manta ray, the fantastic giant sunfish (Mola mola) and many green Pacific sea turtles. What a fantastic morning ride! In the afternoon, we visited Fernandina Island, the youngest and most pristine island in the archipelago. The landscape of this island is just breathtaking. A large shield volcano crowned the island and is surrounded by very young lava flows. During our walk along the coastline of Punta Espinoza, we observed very large groups of marine iguanas.

After reading these short paragraphs, you can realize, dear reader, not only the abundance but the exquisiteness of this magical archipelago, our beloved Galápagos Islands.
