We are now anchored in one of the famous and historic bays of the islands, Post Office Bay. This is one of the places visited in the 1700’s by whalers and even now in the 21st century by average people like us. It is only 6:30 in the morning and we are all ready to start our new adventure, which is to partake in one of the oldest Galápagos traditions; leave some of our mail at the old post office barrel. We all get to the shore where we hear amazing tales of how early explorers lived and the things they did around these waters. Then we return to our Zodiacs to explore the surrounding shores of Floreana, a truly enchanted island! We find plenty of sea lions, blue footed boobies, brown pelicans, turtles and even some of our very good friends, the Galápagos penguins. After all these fruitful activities, we are ready for breakfast on board the Islander. After the meal, we quickly get ready for our snorkeling activity around Champion Islet, a place known to host some of the youngest and most playful seal lions of Floreana. Some of us go snorkeling first; while some of us go around the islet looking for the elusive Charles mocking bird, which we did find!

After lunch, we arrive to one of the most peaceful places in the Galápagos, Punta Cormorant, though no cormorants have ever been found here. As we come ashore, we find ourselves standing on greenish volcanic sand; it feels as if we were on another world. As soon as we walk a few steps onto the beach, we find myriads of sea lions barking, playing and some of them sleeping! We are all ready to explore this part of the island so we split into groups and off we go. There is a beautiful view point from where we can see a lagoon full of flamingos, some young and pale, others older and brightly colored, yet all of them are magnificent. Many species of plants are also found here, some of which are unique and endemic only to Floreana. The sunset is pink and orange behind pillowy clouds: this marks the end of our day, and is a perfect closure to a perfect day.
