Espanola Island
There are boobies flying, frigates soaring and pelicans fishing! All of this is seen right here at Gardner Bay, on the island of Espanola, one of the oldest islands in the Galapagos chain. We have a huge white sandy beach with tons of moving rocks waiting for us, except that all of those moving rocks are our playful friends; the sea lions! So, after a late wake up call, all of us get ready for an aquatic morning, some will go snorkeling and some will enjoy a nice stroll by this beach where a few welcoming committees are observed; sea lions, iguanas, mocking birds and lava lizards. Once we have all walked, swum, and played with the sea lions, we are ready to head back and enjoy another delicious lunch.
In the afternoon, we are already anchored by Punta Suarez, one of the hotspots for birds of the islands. Here is where we can find the amazing waved albatrosses just soaring like the owners of the sky and jumping off these awe inspiring cliffs. As we walked around, we observed many other animals like lava lizards, Nazca boobies, blue footed boobies, tropic birds, thus making our animal list complete. Once we thought we had seen it all, we walk by the beach as we are getting back, and we are lucky to observe a female sea lion that had just given birth to a beautiful and healthy pup. We all thought we had already enough pictures of sea lions. Well, that new born baby changed that, and we immediately started taking a few more dozens pictures of these amazing marine mammals! Certainly one more day in paradise.
