Floreana Island
Early in the morning, we woke up to have a touch of human history as we disembarked to share a long lasting tradition that was started by a whaler officer in the 1700’s, Captain James Colnett. An empty barrel was placed for sailors to deposit letters for their loved ones which would be hand delivered by their colleagues as soon as they had enough whale oil onboard to return to England. Today, post cards from all over the world are resting in this very place to be hand delivered just like the old days.
We continued our navigation to our next site for our greatest snorkel yet. A combination of calm seas, clear water, tons of fish and fishes (more than one species of fish) and an outstanding will for adventure are ingredients for the most fun we had in the Galápagos underwater realm.
Our expedition in the afternoon was full of options, from snorkeling in two different sites to a friendly and fun football (soccer) game with the crew. And finally, all together to share the flamingos in a brackish water lagoon.
The sun set behind the clouds as we got ready for our briefing, and soon afterwards, our barbecue dinner at the sundeck.
The expedition is almost over tomorrow. Tomorrow we are ready to enjoy the day with all our might. What a great place the Galápagos Islands are.
