Bartolome Island
Today, we started early in the morning with a hike to the top of Bartolome Islet. This small island (0.5 square miles) is a real dream come true. The view from the summit of the island is breathtaking. Weather conditions were great, the sun was shining, and beautiful blue sky and waters together with the paradisiacal volcanic landscapes were just amazing. Later in the morning, we went to a beautiful golden beach located in front of the famous Pinnacle Rock. This geological formation is an old eroded tuff cone that stands out along this shoreline. Snorkelling was outstanding and well deserves special attention. Today we had one of the best outings in Bartolome ever! This might sound like a cliché, but it is not. Crystal-clear waters, hundreds of tropical colourful fish, interesting invertebrates, white-tipped reef sharks, stingrays and even sea lions were seen in the area. Birds like brown pelicans, Galápagos penguins and blue-footed boobies were fishing in front of our eyes, performing an unforgettable feeding frenzy. Some of our guests were really stunned to witness such an incredible natural show for the very first time in their lives. Sea lions were the true favourite animals; close runner-ups were the Galapagos penguins. These very small and cute birds were very busy this morning chasing some of the small fish in the area. Some of the penguins were very curious and got very close to our guests. That was a thrill: they could not believe that they were swimming with penguins without getting frozen! With the help of our underwater video housing, Carlos Romero, one of our Naturalists, captured the whole event on tape. In the evening, after enjoying a cocktail together with a yummy Ecuadorian dish: “ceviche” (lime marinated fish) and with the company of a spectacular sunset we went to the lounge to recapitulate the day. A real day to remember that will be kept in the hearts and memories of all the ladies that visit us this week.
