Isle of Mull
Torosay Castle is a nineteenth century manor house with magnificent gardens. What makes this spot special is the rich history of the people who have called this place home. Chris James, owner of Torosay, shared stories of his family as we moved among the rooms and admired the art and artifacts of many generations. Walking through the gardens we saw Italian sculptures and plants from every continent except Antarctica (Antarctica was represented inside the house by the many photographs from Chris’ father, who served there during World War II).
Lord of the Glens repositioned during lunch to the wonderfully attractive port town of Tobermory. Colorfully painted buildings and well-tended gardens create a cheery atmosphere. There was plenty of time to join Konia for a walking tour, do a bit of shopping (the chocolate shop was especially popular) and, later, join the walk to the northern tip of the island to enjoy spectacular views and take a close look at the Stevenson lighthouse.
A short walk from the pier is the Mish Nish, a pub favored by locals. After dinner many of us paid a visit and had a pint.
