Svesfjord, Norway
This morning would be spent at sea on board the National Geographic Endeavour as we make our way further north along the coast of Norway. We all had a chance to see the spectacular scenery and small villages in the overcast subdued light. On board, Sisse Brimberg, our National Geographic Expert, gave a presentation on the Hansa League, part of it with photos and part without.
After lunch the ship entered a short waterway called Svesfjord where we would explore the small bay to the side known as Sandika. From our beach landing we walked along an old wagon trail to see the birch forest reclaim the historically grazed land. Depending on which walk you did, either you were on hands and knees taking photos of microscopic flowers, or all the way to gaining 850 feet of elevation on the long walk, gaining some appreciation for what the beasts of burden who walked the old trail must have suffered through. Kayaking was also an option along the spectacular walled cliffs and this experience gave us a great appreciation of the landscape of metamorphic rock.
Once we had all returned to the ship, she continued north towards our last sunset of the trip, as we travel ever closer to the Arctic Circle!
