Floreana Island

What a great day we had today! Early in the morning we had a choice to disembark and follow an old tradition at Post Office Bay. In this place there is a barrel that holds postcards from people all over the World which rest there waiting to be taken and hand delivered by visitors. This tradition continues just like in the times early whalers used to do it. Many of our guests were able to pick up a few postcards to their correct destination.

Back on board, while we had our breakfast, our Captain repositioned the ship to our next destination, Champion Island. Water activities were offered, deep water or bay snorkeling. Today we had clear waters and many fish and the overall present Galápagos sea lions which made acrobatic maneuvers right in front of our guests as if they were ballerinas performing for a large audience stage.

The glass bottom boat also greeted the calm seas and sea lions’ underwater display. Zodiac rides along the cost were offered as well. We were searching for an elusive mockingbird species which is unique to this area, the Floreana or Charles Mockingbird. Some guests even opted for a longer nap onboard or a floating spa massage experience just as a reminder that they are on vacation. After all there were many options for us to maximize our expedition.

After lunch we repositioned to Punta Cormorant. There we had greater flamingoes, the pinkest of all in Nature. Our walk also took us to two different beaches. One is classified as inorganic, for it is mainly made by minerals, olivine crystals. The other is organic because it is made of calcium carbonate producing beautiful, soft white sand.

These were the props or ingredients for a wonderful and fun day we had today. The coexistence and closeness with Nature has brought many guests, family members and friends much closer together.

This is a magical place, a place forgotten by time, in isolation. Our expedition continues and it gets better and better by the minute. Wish you were here, my dear reader.
