Isabela & Fernandina Islands
I sat down next to a tidal pool on Fernandina Island. It was sunny, but a fresh breeze made it a very agreeable afternoon. I decided to just sit and observe. I tried not to think.
Through the clear water, I could see several damsel fish, in territorial display. They swam around their little algae garden, not letting any other fish to approach.
A sea lion decided to join me. It came from the sea, calling his mom, saw me next to the pool and decided to take a look. Then I couldn't avoid having thoughts… about the morning with more than a hundred common dolphins playing around the National Geographic Endeavour as we sailed along the northern shore of Isabela, and about the ocean sunfish that swam next to my Zodiac during the ride in Punta Vicente Roca.
I had a thought about how lucky I was, how lucky we all were, by being able to enjoy the beauty of such a pristine place on Earth.
