Santa Cruz Island
What do we expect from life? From a trip? From a day? We all, I believe, hope to be content, to enjoy to the most every minute of an hour, to share, to give, to learn. It depends a lot on our attitude, but it also has to do with the setting, and by the setting I mean, the place we are at, the people we are with.
And in Galápagos feeling good comes naturally. The ocean, always there, always ocean, silent, magnanimous, a source of inspiration, like having a blank blue paper to fill in, like having the Universe present and available to commune with. And the people at home, and by home I mean on board the National Geographic Endeavour, people from Ecuador, crew, officers, staff, and from all over, our guests, people who share common interests and share the will of feeling good, enjoying friendship, learning.
Santa Cruz had the ideal conditions for a fine day. It was overcast, which I like for Puerto Ayora that can be one of the warmest places of the week. There was a bit of drizzle, romantic, refreshing. Baby tortoises walked in their little corrals, at the Charles Darwin breeding centre, reminding us about optimism for the future.
And the green fields in the afternoon, as vast as the ocean, again, an empty paper to write our thoughts. Wild tortoises roamed in the fields, many, and huge, reminding us that the good future is being made, that this present time is the great future for a place we love, a great present-future for our lives, and our planet.
