Cerro Dragon & Sombrero Chino
The early morning walk among land iguanas taught us about the successful program that the Park Service and the Research Centre performed to save these extraordinary reptiles from extinction. Feral dogs, cats and rats were eating them all. We had a wonderful walk among these fabulous and unique reptiles learning about their lives and stories.
We are at the northwestern side of the Island of Santa Cruz now, enjoying the wonders that this island has to offer. After the walk, we came back on board to change and some of us went to the beach. Others went snorkeling around the beautiful nearby islet of Guy Fawkes.
Snorkeling at Guy Fawkes, a couple of eroded cones in the middle of the sea, was one of the best experiences of the whole week. A lonely octopus, big schools of varied colorful fish, magnificent morphology of the ocean floor, and the walls of the cones full of colonies of anemones, corals and sponges made this experience just memorable and fantastic.
The afternoon at Sombrero Chino provided us with a variety of entertaining activities, snorkeling, kayaking and beach time among the most agreeable ones. Our younger explorers had a blast in their zodiac riding lessons. They got a license as official Lindblad Zodiac Riders.
