Bartolome Island and Santiago Island

Early this morning, before breakfast, we were already on foot, on our way to the steep summit of Bartolome Island. The reason: this is the most scenic island in the Galápagos…with our optional walk of 372 steps high to the top; this small but impressive island provides a great view of most of the others. It was breathtaking. Some went fast and furious, as a morning workout, and others took it slow and really enjoyed the talks explaining the geology and plants. Once on top we had the photo op of the week.

Back on board we had our deserved breakfast and we were quickly ready for the beautiful golden sand beach and water activities that included snorkeling, swimming, glass-bottom-boating and relaxing around the sea lions and sharks.

As soon as we were back on board we had our farewell talk followed by lunch. The fried potatoes and the fried chicken were sweetened by mouth-melting brownies. We started navigating for our next destination, Santiago Island, our adopted island.

We had a wet landing on a black sandy beach for an immediate walk to the grottos, the land of fur sea lions and many other colorful beasts. The shore walk gave us the chance to see many waders, American oyster catchers, Sally-lightfoot crabs, Galápagos sea lions, and more…our last day in paradise, ended with an incredible sunset at six. Goodbye, Galápagos…
