Española Island
After several months away from the Enchanted Islands, it’s always nice to be back and see that nothing has changed in this tropical paradise. Everything is in its own place; the birds, the iguanas and of course the sea lions. Yes, the ever charming sea lions!
Today, we landed at Punta Suarez in the morning. Punta Suarez is located on Española Island in the southernmost corner of the Galápagos archipelago. This place is home to thousands of sea birds and land birds, as well as sea lions.
Once we landed, we found ourselves surrounded by sea lions, marine iguanas and mocking birds, to mention a few. In fact, while we disembarked, we felt like we were fully interacting with the animals and becoming part of their world. This special feeling comes from the fact that none of these animals fear people. This is a memory that guests will take back home.
As we explored the island, we came across colonies of blue-footed boobies, Nazca boobies and the majestic waved albatross; the lord of the ocean. This magnificent bird nests on Española Island during the dry cool season in large numbers, exceeding the ten thousand pairs.
In the afternoon, we anchored off Gardner Bay on the same island, this time we had several options regarding activities. Some of us headed to the snorkeling site where the highlights were the sting rays and sea lions besides the tropical fish.
Kayaking was amazing along the cliff area of Gardner Islet, exploring the caves and seeing sea lions so close. The guests that visited the beach were convinced that this is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world; white soft sand, turquoise waters, and sea lions everywhere!
It was just another day in paradise.
I can’t wait to see more!
