Cerro Dragon & Sombrero Chino Islands

This visitor site is located at the Northwestern corner of Santa Cruz Island; we had an optional pre- breakfast activity for our group of adventure photographers. They wanted to take advantage of the Galápagos sunrise and the amazing landscape of this place. At 8 am we started our activities with an interesting hike through a prickly pear cactus and holy tree forest before reaching the territory where the Galápagos dragons live (land iguanas). It was quite a nice experience to hear the Darwin finches singing all over, and that is a sign that they want to breed because of the good conditions this time of the year.

We spotted six land iguanas in the area to match with the dramatic scenery. Later on in the morning we went deep water snorkeling to a place known as Guy Fawkes; once at this place there were lots of sea stars, fishes, sea lions and sharks. Some of our people went to a tiny white sandy beach for relaxing and swimming.

By the afternoon we continued with our adventure in the Enchanted Islands but in a different location, a place known as Sombrero Chino (Chinese hat) which is just off the Coast of Santiago Island. Due to the closeness of these two geological formations, this is a perfect place for many activities and all of them are excellent; whatever you decide to do is great: Kayaking or deep water snorkeling with sharks, penguins and marine iguanas munching green algae.

Our final outing was a Zodiac ride to observe penguins because by 6 pm they start to come back home from fishing, and it is a good opportunity to see them both in the water and on the rocks.

This was another fantastic day and so we are looking forward for more excitement.
