Santa Cruz Island
Santa Cruz Island rewarded us with good sightings of tortoises, both in the wild, and at the Charles Darwin Research Station/National Park headquarters. We learned about the successful breeding and repatriation programs, and met famous characters, such as tortoises Lonesome George and Diego.
For lunch we visited a lovely place in the highlands of Santa Cruz. A light drizzle made it look even more idyllic than it normally is. The rain did not stop our adventurous guests from exploring the pit craters, with their endemic forests and new species of land birds, and the land where tortoises wander free and happy.
Once on board, musicians from town sang to life in the Galápagos, to its inhabitants, both humans, and the fearless creatures of this isolated archipelago.
