Española Island
On a warm and very humid morning we started our walk along the trail of one of the biggest jewels of our crown in the Galápagos Islands. Punta Suarez is a very rich site that offers s huge array of nesting marine and land birds.
Our best highlights were of course the Waved Albatrosses that come to this island in April to nest and fly off with their offspring in January, a Galápagos hawk, hundreds of nesting Nazca boobies right at our feet, a big land tortoise that had climbed down to from the mountain to explore along the shores, a lot of colorful marine iguanas, sea lions, crabs, lizards, spiders, doves, mocking birds, finches and more!
The blow hole at the cliff was breathtaking too. It was definitely a fabulous morning with all these animals around us.
During the afternoon at Gardner Bay we had a lot of fun activities, learning how to snorkel from our naturalists at a white sandy beach filled with sea lions, swimming with the sea lions, and deep water snorkeling for the more experienced ones. Kayaking and glass bottom boat chances were offered at the same time. We certainly had a great time at Española Island.
