Floreana Island
Very early this morning we anchored in Post Office Bay. This is where we went to deliver our postcards and letters in a wooden barrel. We approached the coast in our Zodiacs and after a short walk we got to the old barrel. The tradition dictates to pick up post cards or letters with the promise to hand deliver those, just like the whalers did a couple of centuries ago. We found several postcards to be hand delivered, and also left several to be taken back by the next group of people to come here.
After we left Post Office Bay we headed towards Champion Islet. There we snorkeled with sea lions, sharks, and lots of fish. We also went on our glass bottom boat and on a Zodiac ride along the coast of Champion to look for the very rare Floreana mockingbird. We had all kinds of weather; we started with sun and ended with a mild refreshing rain, perhaps the last of the season.
After this incredible morning we repositioned and after a short navigation we arrived to Punta Cormorant. There we enjoyed looking at colorful flamingoes, dozens of fiddler crabs, and many juvenile yellow warblers. We were amused to hear them singing and to see them chasing each other.
Our day ended with a gorgeous sunset with some of our guests saying to have seen the green flash.
