Española Island

This morning we had a very early wake-up call for those interested in taking advantage of the sunrise light. According to our National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions photography experts, the best light for photography is during sunrise and sunset, especially for wild life photos. And this morning we were in one of the best places for photographing Galápagos animals in action.

Española Island is a very special place because most of its fauna is found only here and nowhere else in the archipelago; our guests were amazed by the abundance of life and the great opportunities for capturing unique moments of animal behavior. Blue-footed and Nazca boobies, Española lava lizards, marine iguanas, albatross, mockingbirds, sea lions, finches, gulls, Galápagos sea lions and many others were posing to be photographed by our dear explorers.

We continued our adventure at another visitor site on the same island this afternoon. Gardner Beach is the best place in Galápagos for observing one of the two marine endemic mammals on this enchanted archipelago, the Galápagos sea lions.

At this location we had several activities to offer: glass-bottom boat rides, deep-water snorkeling, kayaking, beach activities, and photography lessons with our experts in the field. Gardner Beach is a place where you have the opportunity to admire sea lions at all stages of life: newborn, playful pups, moms and alpha males, all along the beach.

At the end of the day everyone met back onboard for Recap and an introduction to our next day’s activities. It was difficult to catch everyone’s attention, as we all felt like National Geographic photographers, because of the beautiful photos we had captured today. We are so looking forward to more action on a different Island tomorrow.
