Cerro Dragon & Sombrero Chino
The morning was sunny and beautiful. The large shallow lava platforms were the anchorage for our vessel, and we disembarked at Cerro Dragon on the northern limit of Santa Cruz Island. The home of a colony of fabulous land iguanas, Cerro Dragon is one of the icons of success in the conservation efforts for the Galápagos National Park Service. Big efforts are still made to keep alive and safe the reproductive adults and their offspring that once were very much decimated because of feral dogs and cats.
Along the walk we saw five or six beautiful male iguanas sunbathing around their burrows and enjoyed a very enjoyable walk with the beauty of the surrounding vegetation.
Snorkeling at Guy Fawkes was another great highlight of the morning; also some guests enjoyed a nice beach time before lunch.
The afternoon highlight was kayaking, snorkeling and watching a couple of cute penguins drying up on the rocks.
