Fernandina & Punta Vicente Roca
This morning we anchored right off the shore of the youngest and the most pristine island in relation to the rest of the archipelago: Fernandina. We disembarked on Punta Espinoza; there we saw lots of Galápagos marine iguanas in their breeding colors; some males were nodding their heads to each other as a territorial display.
We also found Galápagos sea lions comfortably resting on the sand, or playing with each other around the intertidal pools. We had a great morning. After our walk, we went snorkeling in deep water; it was great for cooling off after our morning’s walk.
After a short navigation we got to Punta Vicente Roca on Isabela Island; there we went snorkeling along the cliffs of Isabela and found sea turtles, Galápagos penguins, and flightless cormorants fishing. Some of our guests were surprised by a curious cormorant swimming amongst them; some were even closely inspected with its beak. After snorkeling we had a Zodiac ride along the coast where we had a chance to see blue-footed boobies, Galápagos fur seals and the incredible geology of this place.
As we left this area we sailed towards the equator line and enjoyed a great sunset to finish this day.
